Understanding and Resolving the 9050 Communication Error in Auto-Bounce

If you're encountering the 9050 "communicating" error in Auto-Bounce, it typically means that Logic Pro has become unresponsive while Auto-Bounce is attempting to communicate with it. This usually occurs during a function specifically implemented to wait for Logic Pro to finish loading instruments and plugins.

This error often surfaces when Logic takes too long to respond due to background plugin loading or complex session states. Below is a breakdown of what causes it and how to avoid it:

? What's Causing the 9050 Error?

When Auto-Bounce initiates a bounce, it temporarily enables all tracks, even those that were previously turned OFF or were empty. This can cause Logic Pro to begin loading instruments or plugins that were otherwise inactive. If there are a large number of unused or inactive tracks, Logic can stall, and Auto-Bounce will get stuck waiting for a response, leading to the 9050 error.

ℹ️ Best Practices to Avoid This Error

To prevent this issue and ensure a smooth bounce process:

  1. Create a Duplicate of Your Logic Project for bouncing purposes.

    • Go to File > Save As... and give it a unique name (e.g., MyMix_forBounce.logicx).

  2. Purge All Unused and Hidden Tracks

    • Remove any tracks that contain no audio or MIDI data.

    • Delete tracks that are set to “OFF” or are no longer part of your final mix.

  3. Ensure All Remaining Instruments Are Fully Loaded

    • Open the project and manually trigger playback on each track to ensure Logic preloads the necessary instruments/plugins.

  4. Avoid Stacked Track Structures with Unused Sub-Tracks

    • Nested track stacks can sometimes include hidden or inactive sub-tracks that load unexpectedly when Auto-Bounce begins.

? Bonus Tip:

If you regularly work from large templates, consider maintaining a separate version of your session that is stripped down and optimized just for Auto-Bounce. This avoids unnecessary loading delays and streamlines your workflow.

❓ Still Seeing the Error?

If you’ve cleaned your project and are still seeing the error:

  • Ensure you’re running the latest version of Auto-Bounce (https://www.auto-bounce.com/forum/downloads)

  • Send us:

    1. The cleaned Logic project (no audio needed)

    2. A crash report (as a file)

    3. A screen recording of the issue in real time using Vaideo Capture software like Quicktime. Please do not send a video recorded on your phone.

We’ll work with you to resolve it quickly and get you bouncing again.
