Auto-Bounce Crashing? Here’s How to Troubleshoot It

Tip: Before contacting support, always review the README First and Pre-Flight Checklist, and be absolutely sure you’ve tested all 8 Auto-Bounce key commands manually inside Logic. This single step resolves the majority of crash issues.

(Refer to the diagram above for a quick visual overview of the recommended crash-check workflow.)

__________

Crashes are rare, but when they do occur, they’re almost always related to Logic Pro configuration, macOS behavior, or third-party plug-ins at the moment Auto-Bounce begins automating the session.

This guide walks you through the fastest checks to run, in the correct order.

Step 1: Required macOS Permissions

Auto-Bounce requires both of the following:

Full Disk Access

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access → Add Auto-Bounce → ON

Accessibility

System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → Auto-Bounce → ON

If you previously clicked “Don’t Allow,” these must be enabled manually.

Step 2: Confirm You’re Using the Latest Version

Go to the Auto-Bounce website and click the “Download (Free Trial or Update)” button.

That’s it.

There is only one installer for everything.

Important things to know:

  • The same download is used for new installs and updates

  • If you already have a paid license, it will unlock automatically after installation

  • You do not need a separate “update” download or license file

Always test using the latest version.

Older versions can cause crashes or issues that have already been fixed.

Step 3: The Most Important Check — Key Commands

The most common cause of crashes is key-command failure.

Even if Auto-Bounce and Logic appear to match, hidden conflicts can exist.

You must:

  1. Open Logic

  2. Trigger each of the 8 Auto-Bounce key commands manually

  3. Confirm each one works exactly as expected

Until this is verified, stability cannot be guaranteed.

Step 4: Quick Pre-Flight Checks

• Screen flashes during scan?

→ Logic received an unrecognized key command. Re-apply the Auto-Bounce key command set and re-test.

• Only one project crashes?

→ Use Save As and create a clean copy. Delete unused tracks.

• Intermittent behavior?

→ Quit background apps that use key commands (e.g., Keyboard Maestro).

• Take folders collapsed?

→ All take folders must be collapsed before running Auto-Bounce.

• Bouncing to an external drive?

→ Make sure the drive is awake. Slow Finder responses can cause crashes.

Step 5: Known Conditions That Can Cause Crashes

These are confirmed, real-world causes we see repeatedly:

Spitfire Audio plug-ins

Some Spitfire instruments (Player-based libraries, Abbey Road series, Solar/Mercury patches) can cause Logic to hang or crash when tracks are rapidly turned on/off.

→ Bounce those instruments in place to audio, disable them, and re-test.

Stage Manager (macOS)

Stage Manager can pull focus away from Logic during automation.

→ System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Stage Manager → Off

Tracks set to OFF

Logic unloads plug-ins on tracks that are set to OFF. When Auto-Bounce later enables those tracks during automation, Logic may hang while reloading instruments.

Best practice: Temporarily turn ON any OFF instrument tracks once to allow plug-ins to load, then after loading, you can return the tracks to their original OFF state before running Auto-Bounce.

Step 6: What to Send Support

If the issue persists, please send:

1️⃣ Crash report (.ips)

2️⃣ 60–90 second screen recording

3️⃣ Logic project (trimmed if needed)

4️⃣ macOS, Logic, and Auto-Bounce versions

5️⃣ Confirmation that all 8 key commands were tested manually

Upload via the Support Portal or share a download link.
